 PEI Guild

Time and Place

The PEI GP Guild meets the first Saturday of the month, September to May inclusive, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Our gatherings alternate between Trinity, Charlottetown and the Kensington United Church, Kensington. Both of which have designated Godly Play rooms.

There are ten storytellers, from four pastoral charges: Trinity Charlottetown, Trinity Summerside, Kensington United, West River United (Cornwall).

History and Format

The Guild was founded in 2012 and is now into its third year. The format has evolved over that time and will likely continue to evolve as the members reflect on what’s working, what needs to change, does the format serve our purposes, is it getting stale.

In 2012-2013 each gathering included two storytellers telling two different stories and time to discuss some of the theory of Godly Play and Children’s Spirituality, i.e. Rebecca Nye’s book.

In 2013-2014 the time examining theory was replaced with time for general reflection on practice. Stories, two per gathering, were presented in sequence from volume 2, first story, and volume 3, second story. This gave a helpful overview of the unfolding sequence.

This year, 2014 – 2015, the group made the decision to tell one story and include the feast and work time, etc.  We still choose stories from the various genres and, in filling out the roster also offer the opportunity for storytellers to practice stories that are in coming up in their schedules.

We’ve found that the Guild, while providing the opportunity to hone our storytelling skills, has become for us a source of spiritual nurture and support.
